Our path together

Blick auf Fraunberg und den Flughafen München
After Deutsche Lufthansa, we are the largest employer on the airport campus. Overall, nearly 37,000 people work at the airport, and 470 companies are located here. Accordingly, there is a broad range of jobs and training opportunities available. According to the latest employment survey, around 700 young people started their professional lives at the airport campus in 2024 alone, either as apprentices or in a dual study program.

But our central role in the region is not just as an employer – the airport is an important economic factor, adding value every day. We procure just over half of our goods from Munich and the greater airport region. Good collaboration with our suppliers, including many small and medium-sized enterprises, is an important basis for our economic success.
Each of the 4,500 hens at Hollern Farm lays an average of one egg a day, 5,000 of which end up at Munich Airport every week. The supply partnership is more than just a business for the Walter family – it’s proof that short distances and high quality can easily go hand in hand.
Jost Lammers, Vorsitzender der Geschäftsführung Flughafen München GmbH
Approximately every hundredth euro of value creation generated in Bavaria is directly linked to Munich Airport. We are an employment engine and an important training location.

We have deep roots in the region – as an employer, an economic factor, and a business partner – and we take the resulting responsibility very seriously. We do this through daily dialogue, real partnerships, and our social commitment.
Family-owned since 1919: Nikolaus Walter is the fourth generation to run Gut Hollern – driven by a deep conviction that animals that live well lay better eggs. His chickens have access to the outdoors, fresh feed – and plenty of time.
I’ve been working at the airport for over ten years now, and I value the strong teamwork. From Freising, it only takes me 15 minutes to get to my workplace at Munich Airport Center. I love cooking with fresh regional ingredients.

We’ve been supplying Munich Airport for two years now; about 5,000 eggs are shipped from our farm to the airport every week. Our 4,500 chickens are doing well here. They’re free to roam around Gut Hollern and are fed high-quality feed. I’m sure the guests at the airport restaurants can taste the difference.

What our location offers

More jobs, greater value creation, and economic significance that extends far beyond the region: That is our strength – supported by strong ties to our business partners.

Munich Airport is much more than just a transit hub – it is a central engine for the economy and for prosperity. As of the end of 2024, nearly 37,000 people were employed at the airport campus. That means the site has almost completely recovered from the pandemic-related downturns, and is approaching its 2018 employment record of about 38,000 people. Our value creation – including indirect and induced effects – now totals EUR 7.3 billion. This means that approximately every hundredth euro of value creation generated in Bavaria is directly linked to Munich Airport. And the economic significance extends well beyond Bavaria: the airport provides 105,000 jobs nationwide, a strong sign of its performance and relevance.
