Community engagement
Partnership: the airport as a corporate citizen Summary
Munich Airport is an important partner for the region in many ways – whether as an employer, apprenticeship provider, business partner for local companies, or an attractive destination for visitors from the surrounding area. We are involved in the region in many different ways and maintain long-standing partnerships with associations and institutions. When it comes to access to the airport, we place particular importance on the highest possible level of accessibility.
New survey: the airport creates jobs and value
The importance of Munich Airport as a job engine and economic factor is demonstrated by the new employee survey and a study on value creation effects conducted by an external consulting firm on behalf of FMG. The results show how closely we are connected to the region as an employer: Nearly three quarters of employees live in the airport region, and 85 percent in the state of Bavaria. In the city of Munich, the number of airport employees increased most significantly, rising by 25 percent since 2021 to 6,445 people. More and more employees live in the district of Freising (8,269) as well as in the district and the city of Landshut (4,269).3)

Strong together: supporting a wide range of initiatives
Munich Airport has a long-standing tradition of supporting associations and institutions with a charitable background in the airport region and also in the state capital of Munich. In the fiscal year, we supported 346 projects through sponsorship as well as monetary and in-kind donations. Of these, 34 percent were allocated to sports, 27 percent to culture, 24 percent to social causes, ten percent to education, and five percent to nature. In the immediate airport region, for example, in 2025 we supported fire departments in purchasing equipment, sports clubs in their youth work, institutions in the field of nature in designing forest experience stations, and educational institutions as well as cultural initiatives in events and special projects. In Munich, our sponsorship benefited selected institutions such as the Bavarian Philharmonic Orchestra, Hellabrunn Zoo, and the Munich Children’s Theater. In the social sector, we supported the Children’s Rheumatism Foundation and the Outpatient Children’s Hospice Foundation.
Since 2008, the airport has also cooperated with Lebenshilfe Freising. In 2025, students from the Freising education center of Lebenshilfe were able to gain initial professional experience during an internship at the airport and discover their strengths.
Access to the airport: reducing barriers Summary
Our airport is intended to be as accessible and easy to experience as possible for visitors, air passengers, and employees. We have therefore launched numerous measures to design our infrastructure, services, and working conditions to be accessible:
Infrastructure: For drivers, there are sufficient accessible parking spaces near the terminals and close to elevators. Step-free routes, tactile guidance systems, orientation aids, and wheelchair-accessible service counters are standard.
Services: We are making the Munich Airport website and the integrated report accessible. On site, passengers with reduced mobility benefit from a free mobility service.
Working conditions: Our inclusion team and the Council for Employees with Disabilities are committed to ensuring an accessible working environment.
To reduce invisible barriers, we have also been an official member of the Sunflower Network of the Hidden Disabilities association since November 2025. The aim is for our employees to be able to identify travelers with non-visible impairments and discreetly offer assistance. The identifying symbol is a sunflower on a green background.
