In a global environment where instability has become part of everyday life, the need for security, reliability, and orientation is growing steadily. Munich Airport’s mission is to create and sustain connections – at a time when new boundaries are emerging in many parts of the world. We open up opportunities where other pathways are narrowing. By connecting regions, markets, and cultures, we bring people and perspectives together. Our airport is a place where we work together with our partners and employees, and for millions of travelers, to shape the future – reliably, responsibly, and with a firm belief in the unifying power of air travel.
Munich is evolving into a hub of new horizons – driven by an outstanding partnership, dedicated employees, and the trust of our guests.
Looking back, 2025 was a year of remarkable achievements. Our operational performance deserves particular recognition: with nearly 80 percent punctuality during the summer flight schedule, Munich Airport ranked among the top three major European hub airports. A total of 43.4 million passengers used our Bavarian aviation hub, 1.8 million more than in the previous year, representing growth of 4.4 percent. This made Munich the airport with the highest absolute passenger growth in the German-speaking region.
Aircraft movements also developed positively, reaching 337,000 takeoffs and landings, an increase of three percent. Once again, long-haul traffic was a key growth driver, rising by 8.5 percent compared with 2024. A load factor of around 80 percent further confirms the sustained high demand for air travel. In addition, we set an all-time record in airfreight throughput, handling approximately 340,000 metric tons.

This strong operational performance is clearly reflected in our financial results. In 2025, earnings after taxes (EAT) amounted to €169 million, an increase of €105 million compared to the previous year. Revenue rose to just under €1.8 billion. These results underline the effectiveness of our strategy and demonstrate our ability to translate the trust of our customers and partners into sustainable economic success.
Munich Airport is one of the leading locations in European and global aviation. Together with Lufthansa, we are strengthening our position as a premium hub airport and creating the foundation for future growth. Lufthansa and Munich belong together. This partnership is key to shaping the future and delivering an even better travel experience for our guests. By deepening our unique joint venture, we are setting another important milestone for our location. Our agreement includes the commencement of developing for an expanded Terminal 2 infrastructure as well as an extension and development of our successful cooperation through 2056.
A central element of this partnership will be the future expansion of Lufthansa’s long-haul fleet in Munich – a clear commitment to additional intercontinental connections and to the global ambition of our hub, which we are now jointly advancing into its next era.
Our commitment is clear: we ensure that our operational organization is consistently equipped with the right resources, reliable processes and robust, resilient systems.
At the same time, we are making tangible progress on further infrastructure projects. The year 2026 will be defined by important milestones. The commissioning of the new Terminal 1 pier, providing additional capacity for up to six million passengers per year, marks the beginning of our step-by-step modernization program of the entire Terminal 1. Through targeted investments, we are strengthening the future viability of our airport while setting new standards in quality, efficiency, and passenger comfort. Over the coming years, we will modernize the area module by module, including the surrounding infrastructure, giving the airport’s central zone a contemporary new appearance.
All of this progress is built on a strong and resilient foundation. Munich Airport is a key economic engine for Bavaria and the wider region, generating annual gross value added of €7.3 billion – around one percent of Bavaria’s total economic output. With approximately 37,000 employees across some 470 companies, it is also one of Germany’s largest employment sites. Beyond this, the airport secures more than 100,000 jobs nationwide through its wide-ranging economic impact.
As a team, we can be proud of what we have achieved together – and look into our future with confidence and optimism. Our airport has received numerous awards and once again ranks among the world’s top ten airports. I am especially pleased with the award for Best Airport Staff in Europe, which recognizes the outstanding commitment and professionalism of our employees. My sincere gratitude to all colleagues for this remarkable achievement.
