5-star quality: internationally recognized Summary
Munich Airport is listed as a 5-star Airport in the ranking of the London-based aviation research institute Skytrax. At the World Airports Awards 2025, it scored as «Best Airport in Central Europe.» In the global Skytrax comparison, the Bavarian hub airport ranks 9th. Munich Airport is therefore the only German airport among the top 10 in the global ranking. In 2025, the international association of airport operators Airports Council International (ACI) World recognized Munich Airport in the «Airport Customer Experience Accreditation» quality ranking. The program recognizes our commitment to improving the overall visitor experience. At the World Airport Awards 2026, Munich Airport received three awards, earning the titles «Best Airport in Central Europe» and «Best Airport Staff in Europe,» as well as the award «Best Airport Hotel in Europe» for the Hilton Munich Airport. These top rankings underscore the high service quality, strong customer focus, and continuous development of services and infrastructure at Munich Airport.
The internal key performance indicator «Passenger Experience Index» (PEI) covers all evaluation categories along the travel chain, in addition to regular external certifications. The PEI is a valid indicator of customer satisfaction and enables Munich Airport to derive site-specific target values tailored to the needs of target groups and to assign fields of action for performance improvement to customer contact points. In 2025, the PEI recorded a significant increase compared to the previous year. This is primarily attributable to the continuous optimization of operational processes and the overall visitor experience. As a result, in 2025 we were able to achieve high quality in baggage handling thanks to intensive coordination between all companies involved in handling processes as well as increased staffing levels.
The increased use of modern CT scanners at security checkpoints significantly accelerates passenger handling. Since April 2025, the central security screening area in Terminal 2 has been fully converted to this technology. Compared with previous-year figures, this has resulted in significantly higher satisfaction with efficiency and waiting times at security screening in Terminal 2.
