Coporate strategy: destination future
Flughafen München GmbH aims to offer first-class quality in infrastructure and services. We are developing Munich Airport as a hub airport into a green mobility hub with net-zero CO₂ emissions by 2035. With Strategy 2030+, the Group is setting economic, ecological, and social targets. At the same time, challenging competitive conditions are being felt in the industry. As a result, the company will act with a view to its key stakeholders and market context and will pursue sustainable growth to ensure long-term success.
Hub traffic: development and expansion
The cornerstone of our strategic positioning is the further development and expansion of hub traffic at Munich Airport. Our most important partner at the site for this is Deutsche Lufthansa AG, with which we jointly operate the Terminal 2 system. The objective is also to optimize point-to-point traffic in Terminal 1. For this purpose, we are modernizing aging airport infrastructure in order to stand out in competition with premium quality. With a focus on bellyhold cargo on long-haul routes, Munich Airport will also continue to develop in its role as a cargo hub.
Munich Airport and Lufthansa deepen partnership
Munich Airport and Lufthansa are deepening their successful joint venture with a further agreement. Key elements include the start of planning for the expansion of terminal infrastructure and provisions for the continuation and further development of the existing joint venture through 2056. A key factor in this context will, in the longer term, be the expansion of the long-haul fleet in Munich. In this way, both companies are creating the strategic prerequisites for further growth in air traffic at the site. The joint agreement paves the way for the concrete planning phase of the «T-Pier» construction project, which is to be connected at a right angle to the east side of the existing satellite building. This would increase the airport’s annual capacity by ten million passengers. Opening is currently planned for 2035.
Corporate leadership: taking responsibility – living ideas – connecting lives
Our business activities have an impact on the business locations of Munich, Bavaria, Germany, and Europe, on employees, travelers and customers, the airport region and its residents, as well as on companies located at the site and in the surrounding area. Through responsible corporate leadership, we generate value creation, create social value, and ensure societal acceptance. The «M» brand forms a shared umbrella and provides orientation. The core of our brand «Living ideas – Connecting lives» stands for promoting cooperation and performance and creating value together. This strategic positioning means that we assume corporate responsibility within the overall context of sustainability for economic, ecological, and social perspectives and thereby reconcile resilient economic viability with climate and environmental protection.
